National News – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has officially resigned from his ministerial position to pursue his ambition of contesting for the governorship of Bauchi State.
The resignation was confirmed on Monday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, in a brief statement.
Tuggar, a native of Udubo in Gamawa Local Government Area, had previously contested for the same position.
The decision follows reports that Tuggar is among four ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet expected to step down to pursue political offices ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking earlier, the Special Adviser to the Minister on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, confirmed Tuggar’s political plans.
“The minister is interested and aspires to run for the governorship seat of Bauchi State,” Abdulkadir said.
He added that Tuggar would comply with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) timetable and regulations regarding resignations and political participation.
Ambassador Tuggar has served in the foreign affairs ministry for several years, playing a key role in Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.
His resignation marks a significant shift in the current cabinet and highlights the political maneuvering ahead of Bauchi State’s gubernatorial election.
Political analysts note that his experience at the federal level could influence his electoral prospects.
Tuggar’s departure also raises questions about the remaining ministers who are rumored to resign, reflecting the broader trend of cabinet members seeking elective offices in 2027.
The political community in Bauchi State is already speculating on the impact of Tuggar’s entry into the race, especially on party dynamics and campaign strategies.
This development underscores the intersection of national politics and state-level ambitions, as experienced politicians like Tuggar transition from federal appointments to local electoral contests.
Voters and political observers will be closely monitoring his campaign announcements and official filings with INEC in the coming weeks.
