National News – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognised the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The decision was reflected on the electoral body’s official website on Monday, confirming the leadership that emerged during the PDP national convention held in Abuja.

The newly recognised leadership includes Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.

Both officials were selected during the PDP National Convention held Sunday night at the Velodrome of the National Stadium in Abuja.

The convention followed the dissolution of the party’s national caretaker committee.

According to the updated list published by INEC, members of the National Working Committee were re-elected through a consensus process during the convention.

The development signals official recognition of the leadership aligned with Wike, a key political figure and current FCT minister.

The new PDP National Working Committee structure also features several party officials across key roles.

Among them are Aaron Chukwuemeka as Deputy National Chairman (South) and Yusufu Akirikwen as Deputy National Chairman (North).

Other members include Kolawale Olabisi as Deputy National Secretary, Odeyemi Oladiran as National Treasurer, and Lado Marke as Deputy National Treasurer.

Additional appointments include Umar Bature as National Organising Secretary and Jungudo Mohammed as National Publicity Secretary.

The leadership team also includes officials responsible for legal affairs, financial management, youth representation, and women’s mobilisation within the party’s national structure.

INEC’s recognition effectively confirms the outcome of the Abuja convention and clarifies the leadership structure of Nigeria’s main opposition party ahead of future political activities.

The development comes amid ongoing internal debates within the PDP over party unity and leadership alignment.

Political observers say the recognition could shape internal negotiations within the party and influence its preparations for upcoming electoral contests.

With INEC now reflecting the new leadership on its official records, the Wike-backed faction gains institutional legitimacy in the PDP’s national administration.
