National News – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday inspected several ongoing road construction projects across Abuja and promised their completion before May 2026, while sharply criticising Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, over claims relating to the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party.
Wike visited multiple road construction sites managed by China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), Arab Contractors and Gilmor Engineering, including the Airport Road–Kuje junction and several major interchanges within the Federal Capital Territory.
The inspection formed part of efforts by the FCT administration to monitor progress and ensure contractors meet delivery deadlines.
Speaking during the tour, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and reaffirmed that the projects would be completed and inaugurated by May 2026 to mark the third anniversary of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria.
According to him, the government is closely supervising contractors while also ensuring they receive adequate support and resources to finish the projects on schedule.
He added that contractors had been instructed to provide alternative routes to reduce the inconvenience faced by residents and motorists during construction.
However, the inspection took a political turn when Wike responded to allegations made earlier by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who claimed that the FCT minister had been planted to weaken the Peoples Democratic Party.
Wike dismissed the claim as embarrassing and accused the governor of inconsistency.
He alleged that Mohammed had previously attempted to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress before later supporting former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 elections.
The minister also addressed the internal disputes within the PDP, insisting that the opposition party remains strong despite ongoing legal and political challenges.
He criticised Mohammed’s reported demand for the PDP National Secretary position, describing it as a request made from a “position of weakness.”
Wike further questioned why the Bauchi governor had allegedly met with President Tinubu several times if he believed the president was interfering in PDP affairs.
Reaffirming his political stance, the minister maintained that he remains a member of the PDP but continues to support President Tinubu’s administration.
