National News – Troops of Operation Fansan Yanma carried out a decisive strike on a notorious bandit camp in Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State, on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of several fighters, including the son of the gang leader, Ado Alero.

The military operation aimed to dismantle the bandit network responsible for kidnappings, cattle rustling, and attacks across multiple states.

Capt. David Adewusi, spokesperson for Operation Fansan Yanma, confirmed the offensive to The PUNCH, stating that troops launched a coordinated assault supported by precision airstrikes.

“There was a major attack on Alero’s camp last Saturday in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State, which resulted in the death of several bandits,” he said.

While the exact number of casualties is yet to be officially verified, military sources suggest significant losses among the bandits.

Reports on the Nigerian Armed Forces and Military News Facebook page claim that at least 65 fighters were killed, including Kachalla Iliya Sarki, Alero’s biological son.

Other key figures reportedly neutralized include lieutenants Dogo Sule and Iliya Mai Rasha.

The bandit leader had mobilized approximately 300 motorcycle-riding fighters and allied reinforcements but was overwhelmed by superior firepower.

The report also highlighted that seven vigilantes supporting the military lost their lives during the clash.

The death of Iliya Sarki, linked to widespread criminal activities, could weaken the group’s operational structure.

Ado Alero is believed to have fled toward Yankuzo town, with troops intensifying efforts to track remaining members and prevent reprisals on vulnerable communities.

Security forces are maintaining heightened vigilance across the region to dismantle remaining cells connected to the gang.

This operation underscores the Nigerian military’s commitment to curbing banditry and protecting civilians in Zamfara and neighboring states.

Authorities continue to assess the situation and are expected to release detailed casualty figures soon.
