National News – The Kwara State Police Command has arrested 13 suspected cultists, street thugs, and drug peddlers during a coordinated security operation at Tanke Junction in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The raid, carried out by police operatives, targeted criminal hideouts linked to cult-related violence, drug trafficking, and other unlawful activities disturbing residents in the state capital.

Police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during the late-night operation aimed at restoring peace and strengthening security across the Ilorin metropolis.

According to the command, officers also recovered 24 motorcycles and several hard drugs, including substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, crystal methamphetamine known as “ice,” Colorado, tramadol, and other illegal narcotics.

The police explained that Tanke Junction had reportedly become a gathering point for cult groups and criminal gangs involved in recruiting young people into unlawful societies, intimidating residents, and planning violent attacks within Ilorin and nearby communities.

Authorities added that intelligence reports and surveillance operations led to the successful crackdown on the suspects.

Investigators revealed that the arrested individuals are currently undergoing interrogation as the command intensifies efforts to identify and arrest other fleeing members of the criminal network.

Police authorities further stated that the suspects would be charged to court immediately after investigations are concluded.

Residents of the area have expressed relief following the operation, noting that cases of street violence, drug abuse, and criminal intimidation had increased in recent months around Tanke Junction.

Security officials assured members of the public that more raids and surveillance operations would continue across Kwara State to combat cultism, illegal drug trade, and violent crimes.

The Kwara State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and maintaining law and order in the state.
