National News – An Ijaw leader and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), High Chief Thompson Fuoye, has officially declared his intention to contest the Burutu Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
He promised to bring purposeful leadership and stronger federal attention to the oil-producing area in Delta State.
Fuoye unveiled his ambition during a meeting with party executives, stakeholders and supporters in Burutu, where he outlined his vision for a new style of representation built on transparency, accessibility and grassroots engagement.
Speaking at the gathering, the APC stalwart said Burutu communities, despite their significant contribution to Nigeria’s oil wealth, have remained largely underdeveloped and underserved.
He said his entry into the race is aimed at changing that narrative by pushing for increased federal projects and opportunities for the people.
Fuoye, a petroleum economist and philanthropist, previously served as Special Assistant on Community and Rural Development to former Ifeanyi Okowa, the immediate past governor of Delta State.
Drawing from that experience, he said he understands the developmental gaps affecting riverine communities and is prepared to advocate strongly for their needs at the national level.
Fuoye, who has over the years been empowering thousands of Ijaw youths across the Niger Delta, stressed that his aspiration was not merely political but rooted in a sense of duty to provide effective representation for Burutu people, particularly communities in the difficult-to-reach riverine areas that often feel disconnected from government.
The APC chieftain also highlighted his unique personal background, noting that being born in Northern Nigeria and educated in the South-West has given him broad national exposure and networks that would help him attract investments and federal interventions to the constituency.
Fuoye pledged that if elected, his office would remain open and responsive to the people, promising to run a transparent representation that prioritizes the welfare of constituents.
He identified key focus areas of his legislative agenda to include education, improved healthcare services, infrastructure development and economic empowerment initiatives designed to create opportunities for young people and women.
Party leaders present at the meeting urged APC members across the constituency to support Fuoye’s ambition, stressing that unity within the party would be critical to securing victory in future elections.
They described Fuoye as a committed grassroots mobilizer with the experience and capacity required to reposition Burutu Federal Constituency for meaningful development and stronger representation at the National Assembly.
