National News – The All Progressives Congress in Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has adopted Governor Umo Eno as its sole governorship candidate ahead of the party primaries and the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached during an enlarged stakeholders’ and party members’ meeting held on Wednesday at the residence of party leader, Dr Pat Ifon, in Onna.
The meeting also produced consensus candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly positions.
Party leaders announced the adoption of Senator Ekong Sampson for the Senate seat, Dr Eunice Thomas for the House of Representatives, and Elder Nelson Ntia for the State House of Assembly.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ekerete Udoh, the APC leadership said the move was aimed at strengthening unity and positioning the party for victory in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking during the gathering, Onna APC Chairman Tom Nkanang urged members to remain united and avoid internal divisions that could weaken the party’s chances at the polls.
He appealed to aggrieved members to put aside differences and work together for electoral success.
Dr Pat Ifon explained that the meeting was organised to communicate the party leadership’s decisions and begin preparations for the primaries and general elections.
He stated that Governor Eno had directed party members to avoid conflicts and maintain peace within the APC structure across the local government.
Ifon also formally announced the adoption of President Bola Tinubu and other candidates for various elective positions.
He called on party supporters to intensify mobilisation efforts and pray for Senate President Godswill Akpabio ahead of the elections.
The Commissioner for Finance, Emem Bob, said he accepted the party’s consensus arrangement despite his earlier preference for another candidate.
Other stakeholders at the meeting praised the leadership style of Governor Eno and urged reconciliation among party members before the elections.
