Babachir Lawal Quits ADC, Alleges Atiku-Favoured Primary Was Rigged

National News — Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), , has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleging that the party’s recently concluded primary election was manipulated to favour former Vice-President and his political associates.

In a statement issued on Monday, Lawal described the primary process as “massively rigged,” claiming that the exercise was deliberately structured to ensure the emergence of Atiku and his loyalists as candidates of the party.

The former SGF expressed disappointment over what he termed a lack of transparency and fairness in the conduct of the primaries, insisting that the outcome did not reflect the wishes of party members.

According to him, the alleged irregularities undermined the democratic principles upon which the ADC was founded and eroded confidence in the party’s internal electoral process.

Lawal further stated that his decision to leave the party was informed by the need to uphold integrity and democratic values, adding that he could not remain in an organisation where due process was allegedly compromised.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of future electoral contests, with stakeholders closely monitoring the evolving dynamics within opposition parties.

As of the time of filing this report, the leadership of the African Democratic Congress had yet to issue an official response to the allegations raised by the former SGF.

The resignation is expected to generate fresh debate within the opposition bloc as preparations for forthcoming political activities gather momentum across the country.
