National News – Former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku and former Adamawa North senator, Ishaku Abbo, have picked nomination and expression of interest forms under the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The forms were obtained on Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja as both politicians formally declared their ambitions for key elective positions.
Maku, who recently defected from the Social Democratic Party, is seeking to represent Nasarawa North Senatorial District in the Senate.
Abbo, who left the African Democratic Congress days earlier, is contesting for the Adamawa State governorship ticket under the Labour Party platform.
Their decision to join the Labour Party comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with several politicians citing internal party disputes and unresolved crises as reasons for their defections.
Also purchasing nomination forms were Emmanuel Ben for the Akwa Ibom governorship race, Adamu Blanzou for the Akwanga North/Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency seat, Jesse Ayenajeh for the Toto Federal Constituency, and Chidiebere Anyanwu for the Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency seat.
Speaking after obtaining his form, Maku expressed confidence in the Labour Party’s chances in the next general elections.
He said the party had gained nationwide acceptance and support from Nigerians, adding that residents in Nasarawa North remained committed to delivering victory for Labour Party candidates in future elections.
Abbo also praised the leadership of Labour Party National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, for repositioning the party ahead of the polls.
He noted that the party was becoming a strong political force in Adamawa State and across the North-East region.
The development highlights increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections as politicians reposition themselves for contests at the state and national levels.
