National News – Troops of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation Fansan Yamma have killed two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a military operation in Kebbi State.
The operation, conducted on June 27 in the Sabarumawa axis of the state, was based on intelligence indicating that the terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly deployed to the area and laid an ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route.
Danja said the troops engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle as they approached the ambush position, with the military’s superior firepower resulting in the death of two terrorists. Other members of the group reportedly fled into the surrounding forest.
Following the encounter, troops conducted a search of the area and recovered several operational items allegedly abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. The recovered exhibits included AK-47 rifles, magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle.
The military said the operation forms part of sustained offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and denying criminal elements freedom of operation across the North-West.
Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through continued offensive operations and urged members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
