National News – Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the death of the President of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State and Grand Chief Imam of Yewaland, Sheikh Sikirulai Babalola.
The respected Islamic scholar died on Saturday at the age of 98 and was buried at Igan Alade in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Speaking during the burial ceremony, Abiodun described the late cleric as one of the most influential Muslim leaders in Ogun State.
He said Babalola dedicated his life to the promotion of Islam, peace, religious harmony, and community development across Yewaland and beyond.
The governor noted that the deceased served faithfully as both the Grand Chief Imam of Yewaland and President of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State.
According to him, the late Islamic leader was known for integrity, generosity, and devotion to humanity.
“I cannot find better words to describe him other than that he was a man of God and a good man,” Abiodun stated while addressing mourners at the event.
Abiodun further said Ogun State had lost one of its foremost spiritual leaders whose teachings and guidance helped strengthen unity among different religious groups.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort his family, followers, and the Muslim community.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of State for Health, Iziaq Kunle Salako, described the late cleric as an upright man who defended the interests of Yewaland and inspired younger generations through his leadership and service.
In a lecture delivered during the burial, Dr. Raji Akano urged people to live impactful lives, reminding mourners that death is inevitable and every individual would someday return to their Creator.
