National News – Key figures within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including Peter Obi, are reportedly weighing a defection to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The development follows rising internal tensions, unresolved leadership disputes, and legal uncertainties that have cast doubt on the party’s stability and readiness for the polls.

Sources revealed that Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has been consulting with stakeholders on the next political move.

The consultations come after a recent Supreme Court of Nigeria ruling, which overturned an earlier injunction removing key party leaders but failed to resolve the underlying leadership crisis.

Analysts say this has intensified concerns about the ADC’s cohesion and electoral viability.

Meanwhile, NDC officials have confirmed ongoing talks with Obi and other political heavyweights, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Party representatives disclosed that discussions have included the possibility of offering a presidential ticket to strengthen their chances in 2027.

This aligns with the NDC’s broader strategy to attract influential opposition figures and build a formidable coalition.

In a related development, former Adamawa governorship candidate Aishatu Binani has already defected to the NDC, citing the party’s structured approach to governance and the influence of her political base.

Her move is seen as part of a growing trend of political realignment across Nigeria’s opposition landscape.

While ADC officials have dismissed reports of mass defections, observers note that ongoing legal battles and internal divisions may continue to weaken the party.

As the 2027 elections approach, these shifting alliances could significantly reshape Nigeria’s political dynamics.
