National News – The Airtel Africa Foundation, in collaboration with Airtel Nigeria, has launched a free digital skills programme aimed at training 200 underserved young women in Ikorodu.

The initiative, unveiled on Wednesday, is part of the DigiLeap Tech Drive designed to close the gender gap in technology and expand opportunities in Nigeria’s digital economy.

The programme targets women aged 18 to 35, with applications open until May 8, 2026.

The project is being executed in partnership with the ISHK Tolaram Foundation and Co-Creation Hub, with implementation led by the SAIL Innovation Lab.

According to organisers, the training goes beyond classroom lessons by integrating mentorship, hands-on technical instruction, and direct pathways to internships and employment in the tech sector.

Chairman of the foundation, Segun Ogunsanya, said the initiative is structured to create a professional pipeline that transitions participants into sustainable careers.

He explained that the goal is to ensure inclusivity in the digital revolution while addressing unemployment challenges among young women in underserved communities.

Also speaking, Airtel Nigeria CEO Dinesh Balsingh highlighted the broader economic impact of the programme, noting that empowering women with digital skills can significantly boost national growth.

He added that the DigiLeap initiative is designed to move participants from the margins into the core of the tech workforce.

The organisers emphasised that technology remains a powerful tool for unlocking economic opportunities across Africa.

They reiterated their commitment to long-term social impact, stressing that increased female participation in technology can drive community development and innovation.
