National News – Akintunde Rotimi has secured the All Progressives Congress ticket to contest for the Ekiti North I (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC primary election was held on Saturday in Ekiti State, where the lawmaker reportedly won 22 out of 24 wards to defeat eight other aspirants seeking the party’s nomination.
Rotimi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, emerged as the clear winner during the peaceful primary exercise organised by the APC.
According to his media team, the election reflected strong grassroots support for the lawmaker as party delegates across the constituency voted overwhelmingly in his favour.
Among the aspirants defeated during the APC primary were former House of Representatives member Bimbo Daramola, Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, Gbenga Joseph, Prince Ayorinde Ejioye, and Engr Ayo Omotosho.
Before the election, some aspirants stepped down and endorsed Rotimi’s re-election bid, further strengthening his chances ahead of the contest.
The statement from the lawmaker’s camp revealed that Mrs Funke Owoseni, Mr Kayode Omoboya, and Barrister Yemi Ayeni publicly withdrew from the race and declared support for the incumbent lawmaker before the APC primary election began.
Rotimi, who serves as spokesman for the 10th House of Representatives, has remained one of the leading voices in Nigeria’s National Assembly.
Political observers say his victory may boost his influence within the APC as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue across the country.
Party officials described the primary election as transparent, peaceful, and competitive, adding that the process demonstrated the APC’s commitment to internal democracy in Ekiti State.
