National News – The Anambra State Government has dismissed viral claims that a structure at the new Government House collapsed during a heavy rainstorm on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
Officials clarified that no part of the main Government House building was affected, countering circulating social media reports that suggested otherwise.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Anambra State Governor, Christian Aburime, the damage recorded involved only a few partitions of temporary barricade barriers located about 20 metres away from the Government House perimeter fence.
The damage, he explained, was caused by strong winds and a severe thunderstorm that swept across parts of the state on Thursday evening, affecting several private properties as well.
The government stressed that the claims suggesting a structural failure were misleading and did not reflect the actual situation.
The incident, Aburime noted, was purely weather-related and not due to poor construction standards as suggested in some online reports.
The Anambra Capital Territory Development Authority has reportedly commenced work on repairing the affected barricade sections.
Additional reinforcement measures are being put in place to allow better airflow and reduce the impact of severe winds in future storms.
The government urged residents to disregard what it described as fake news and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safe public infrastructure.
Officials further warned against politicising weather-related incidents and spreading unverified information.
