National News – Governor Nasir Idris has secured the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress for a second term ahead of the 2027 election after emerging as the party’s sole candidate in Kebbi State.
The affirmation took place on Thursday at the Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi, where delegates from all 225 wards unanimously endorsed the governor, popularly known as “Kauran Gwandu.”
Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Abdulmalik Mahmud, said the exercise was mainly to formalise the collective decision already made by party members across the state.
According to him, representatives from all wards attended the event, showing unity, loyalty and confidence in Idris’ administration.
Mahmud confirmed that Idris met all constitutional and party requirements to contest the election and was officially declared the APC governorship flagbearer for the 2027 Kebbi governorship race.
The announcement was greeted with loud cheers from supporters and party loyalists at the stadium.
Earlier, Kebbi APC Chairman, Abubakar Kana-Zuru, explained that the consensus endorsement reflected the collective wish of party stakeholders and members to retain the governor for another term in office.
He noted that all 225 wards agreed to support Idris’ re-election ambition.
In his acceptance speech, Idris thanked party members, residents and stakeholders for the renewed confidence in his leadership.
He pledged to intensify infrastructure development, improve governance and ensure inclusive leadership across Kebbi State if re-elected in 2027.
The governor also appreciated the support of President Bola Tinubu, the APC National Working Committee and political leaders in the state.
He urged residents to remain united and continue supporting the ruling party to sustain peace, development and economic growth in Kebbi State.
