National News – The All Progressives Congress Initiative for Good Governance (APC IGG) has called on the Federal Government to fully implement the appointment of retired Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Adamu as Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, stressing urgency in strengthening pension administration for retired military personnel in Nigeria.
The group’s National President, Musa Tsoken, made the appeal in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, April 14, 2026, noting that President Bola Tinubu had approved the appointment effective December 4, 2025.
According to the group, the decision is aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency in military pension management.
Tsoken explained that Adamu’s background in military finance, budgeting, and institutional management positions him to reform pension systems and improve welfare for retirees and their families.
The APC IGG urged the Presidency, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and relevant agencies to ensure immediate implementation of the directive, arguing that delays undermine governance efficiency.
The group stated that full execution of the appointment would support due process, administrative continuity, and improved service delivery within the Military Pensions Board located in Abuja, Nigeria.
The group expressed optimism that swift action would strengthen institutional trust and send a positive signal about Nigeria’s democratic maturity.
Stakeholders in the defence and veterans community also noted that timely implementation could reduce administrative bottlenecks and improve confidence among retired service members across the country.
It is also expected to enhance coordination between military pension structures and federal payroll oversight systems, ensuring faster resolution of pending benefit cases.
The group reiterated that reforms in pension administration remain critical to national security morale and post-service welfare for Nigeria’s armed forces veterans.
They urged swift action without further delay promptly.
