National News – The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, and two serving members of the House of Representatives lost their bids to secure return tickets during the All Progressives Congress primaries held across Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primary election, conducted on May 16 and concluded in Lafia on Sunday, saw Hon. Daniel Ogazi defeat Jatau in the Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency race.
Ogazi secured 13,083 votes, while the Speaker polled 5,873 votes. Abdulaziz Danladi finished with 1,067 votes.
Two incumbent lawmakers, Mohammed Abdulmumini Ari of Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency and Jeremiah Umaru of Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, also failed to retain their party tickets after losing to challengers in the APC exercise.
Announcing the results in Lafia, Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee, Musa Shuaibu Guri, said the election process was peaceful, credible and conducted according to the Electoral Act, party guidelines and the Nigerian Constitution.
In the Nasarawa/Toto contest, Mohammed Al-Bashir emerged winner with 31,796 votes, defeating Ari Abdulmumini Mohammed, who scored 9,039 votes.
Dr Ahmed Wada Ikaka received 1,888 votes, while Abdullahi Jibril polled 3,728 votes.
For the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, Tony Bala Shammah defeated incumbent lawmaker Jeremiah Umaru by scoring 38,333 votes against Umaru’s 4,061 votes.
The committee also confirmed that Mohammed Al-Makura emerged as APC candidate for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency after his rival, Isaac Kigbu, withdrew from the race before voting began.
Al-Makura secured 45,000 affirmation votes through a consensus arrangement.
Guri urged all aspirants, both winners and losers, to unite and work for the progress of the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, while results for the Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency were still being collated at press time.
