National News – Political tension deepened in Rivers State after Governor Siminalayi Fubara reportedly received a cold reception during the All Progressives Congress governorship screening exercise in Abuja ahead of the 2027 elections.

The screening, held at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, has intensified speculation over the influence of Nyesom Wike in determining the APC governorship ticket for Rivers State.

Sources within the ruling All Progressives Congress disclosed that key allies of Wike, including Kingsley Chinda and Alabo Dakorinama George Kelly, underwent smooth screening sessions before the party committee.

However, Fubara’s appearance reportedly lasted less than 10 minutes, sparking claims of internal political hostility.

Witnesses at the venue said the Rivers governor appeared unhappy as he left the screening area without addressing journalists.

The APC screening committee was expected to assess governors seeking re-election and governorship aspirants ahead of the party primaries scheduled for May 21, 2026.

Party insiders alleged that the APC leadership and Presidency currently favour Wike’s political structure in Rivers State, giving his loyalists an advantage in the race for the governorship ticket.

Fubara and Wike have remained locked in a prolonged political battle over control of structures in the oil-rich state since the governor assumed office.

Reacting to the development, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru stated that the screening committee would release its official report after concluding all exercises.

Meanwhile, an aide to Fubara denied claims of hostility, insisting the governor was quickly cleared because of his status as an incumbent.

The APC governorship primaries are expected to shape the political future of Rivers State as rival camps continue to battle for dominance ahead of the 2027 elections.
