National News – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports linking his recent trip to Morocco with political meetings ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His media aide clarified that the journey was strictly for a family wedding ceremony held in Marrakech.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, said the former presidential candidate travelled to Morocco to chair the wedding ceremony of Cherina and Muna Okey Ezeibe on Saturday.

According to Shaibu, the event had no connection with coalition talks, opposition realignments or political consultations ahead of the next election cycle.

He explained that the ceremony brought together dignitaries, friends and family members from different African countries in a celebration of unity and cultural harmony.

The aide noted that the wedding held special meaning for Atiku because of his long-standing relationship with businessman Okey Ezeibe, the groom’s father.

He described the friendship between both men as one built on mutual respect and years of personal association.

Shaibu also revealed that the bride’s father, Lassina Zerbo, attended the event, adding international significance to the ceremony.

During the occasion, Atiku reportedly described marriage as a sacred institution founded on love, patience, sacrifice and mutual respect.

The former vice president also prayed for peace, prosperity and lasting happiness for the couple.

The wedding, held against the backdrop of Marrakech, was described as a celebration of friendship across borders and shared African values.

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 presidential election, remains a prominent figure in opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
