National News – The Borno State Government has reassured the public over the reintegration of repentant Boko Haram terrorists.
It says strict deradicalisation measures are in place to prevent a return to violence.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, made this known in an interview aired on May 12, 2026.
She explained that the rehabilitation process is part of the Federal Government’s Operation Safe Corridor in Borno State, Nigeria.
According to her, a key step in the programme is oath-taking on the Holy Quran. This is done at the final stage of rehabilitation.
She said the oath is a strong moral and spiritual commitment. It is believed to discourage former fighters from returning to insurgency.
Gambo added that breaking such an oath carries serious social and religious consequences within the Borno model.
She also admitted that funding remains a major challenge. This affects feeding, clothing, and education support for participants.
Despite this, she said government efforts continue to stabilise the programme and improve reintegration outcomes.
The development comes amid ongoing national debate over the reintegration of former insurgents in the North-East.
Concerns have been raised about transparency, accountability, and the risk of relapse into terrorism.
Officials say the programme covers individuals who surrendered from Boko Haram and related groups.
It also includes rehabilitation, education, psychosocial care, and vocational training.
The goal is to reduce radicalisation and promote peace in Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, and other affected areas.
Authorities stress that community acceptance is key to successful reintegration and long-term security.
