National News – At least 11 people, including two soldiers, have been killed in fresh attacks linked to terrorists and armed gangs across Borno, Zamfara, and Plateau states.
The incidents, which occurred on May 7, 2026, have heightened fears over worsening insecurity in northern Nigeria as security agencies intensify operations against insurgents and kidnappers.
In Borno State, suspected ISWAP fighters attacked a military Forward Operating Base in Magumeri during the early hours of Thursday.
According to the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, troops successfully repelled the assault and killed several insurgents after a fierce gun battle.
Military authorities confirmed that two soldiers lost their lives, while an officer and other injured personnel are receiving treatment.
Troops also recovered AK-47 rifles, anti-aircraft guns, and ammunition from fleeing attackers.
In Zamfara State, six commuters died after an Improvised Explosive Device exploded along the Bagega–Anka road.
Police officials said six other victims sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical care.
Security operatives later deployed bomb disposal experts to clear the route and prevent further explosions.
The military also carried out separate clearance operations in Talata Mafara and Maradun local government areas of Zamfara, where two suspected terrorists were killed.
Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle during the raid aimed at dismantling terrorist camps within the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor.
Meanwhile, police operatives in Plateau State killed a suspected kidnapper during a gun duel in Changal Village, Mangu Local Government Area.
Officers recovered an AK-47 rifle and live ammunition after the confrontation.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing as security agencies continue efforts to restore peace in the affected communities.
