National News – The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has directed Nigerian troops to intensify operations against bandits and criminal networks across the North-West, stressing that national security must be restored at all costs.

He gave the order on Monday, April 20, 2026, during an operational visit to the headquarters of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Gusau, Zamfara State.

Oluyede, while addressing soldiers, said the safety of Nigerians depends on the military’s resolve, urging them to remain relentless in eliminating threats.

He commended troops for their sacrifices and resilience but emphasized the need for discipline, professionalism, and sustained offensives to dismantle criminal groups operating in the region.

According to a statement issued by Samaila Uba, the CDS also assured personnel of improved welfare, enhanced training, and better operational equipment.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen air support and coordination among security forces to boost effectiveness in tackling banditry and kidnappings.

During the visit, Oluyede met with the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, who pledged continued support for military operations.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of intelligence sharing and collaboration to secure affected communities.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA was launched as part of broader military strategies to curb insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West, where years of armed banditry, mass abductions, and violent attacks have displaced thousands of residents.

The CDS’s visit included operational briefings, troop interactions, and field assessments aimed at strengthening morale and accelerating security gains.

The directive underscores renewed efforts by the Armed Forces to restore peace, protect civilians, and reclaim territories from criminal elements threatening national stability.
