National News – The Delta State Government has urged eligible youths across the state to take advantage of the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise, stressing the importance of stronger participation to fill the state’s allocated slots.
The call follows concerns over the low number of applicants recorded so far in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, made the appeal while receiving a recruitment delegation from the Nigerian Army led by Brigadier-General Moses Ikobah during a courtesy visit in Asaba.
Emu praised the Nigerian Army for its inclusiveness and equitable recruitment process, which ensures balanced representation from all regions of the country.
According to the SSG, the state government has intensified sensitisation efforts aimed at encouraging eligible youths to participate.
He explained that traditional institutions have been engaged to spread awareness, with outreach programmes already underway in several communities.
Emu added that designated registration centres have been established across all local government areas to make the process easier and accessible at no cost to applicants.
He expressed optimism that the 400 recruitment slots allocated to Delta State would be filled, noting that lessons from previous recruitment exercises are guiding the current strategy.
The government, he said, is determined to ensure that more youths benefit from the opportunity.
Brigadier-General Ikobah explained that the recruitment exercise, which began on March 30, 2026, is part of the Nigerian Army’s 91st regular intake and is aimed at recruiting about 14,000 personnel nationwide.
Each state, including the Federal Capital Territory, is expected to contribute between 350 and 400 recruits.
Despite over 38,000 applications nationwide as of April 7, Delta State’s participation remains low compared to previous years.
Ikobah warned that the state risks losing part of its quota if more youths fail to apply before the May 17 deadline.
He stressed that beyond job opportunities, joining the military promotes youth empowerment, strengthens national unity, and enhances security across the country.
