National News – Broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, aged 66, is recovering in hospital after suffering a stroke while working with GB News in the United Kingdom.
According to the channel, he was taken ill last week and medical checks later confirmed a stroke, a condition that occurs when blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted, causing potential damage.
He is responding well to treatment and remains under close medical supervision.
GB News confirmed the health scare in an official statement, noting that colleagues wish him a speedy recovery.
Presenter Alex Armstrong is expected to stand in for Holmes on the breakfast programme in the coming week.
The broadcaster described Holmes as a valued member of its presenting team.
Holmes has had a long broadcasting career across Sky News, GMTV, ITV, and UTV, and joined GB News in 2022.
He has previously faced several health challenges, including spinal surgery, hip replacements, and mobility issues.
In 2024, he and his wife Ruth Langsford confirmed the end of their marriage.
Medical experts note that stroke symptoms can include facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulties, and require immediate emergency response.
Holmes continues to receive care as he focuses on recovery, with supporters across the broadcasting industry sending well wishes.
Health officials emphasize urgency, noting that early treatment significantly improves survival and reduces long-term brain damage.
According to NHS guidance, stroke is a medical emergency requiring immediate response, often using FAST symptoms recognition (Face, Arms, Speech, Time).
Holmes’ case has also renewed public awareness of stroke risks among older adults and those with previous health conditions.
