National News – The Edo State Government has directed the arrest and prosecution of students at Igbinedion Education Centre following a viral bullying incident that has sparked nationwide concern.

The Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, described the video showing students assaulting a peer as “disturbing and unacceptable,” stressing that no justification exists for such behavior.

The government acted immediately by expelling the students involved and instructing the police to ensure they face legal consequences.

Afegbua highlighted that parents and teachers must strengthen supervision and discipline in schools to prevent similar incidents.

“It is a wake-up call for parents and educators alike,” he said, noting that the state Commissioner of Police is involved in ensuring proper investigations.

The video circulated on social media shows two male students beating a classmate, dragging him by his suit, and stomping on his chest while another student recording the incident pleaded with them to stop.

The Edo State Police Command summoned the school management to hand over the students for investigation and possible prosecution.

Additionally, the Ministry of Education has established a five-man committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify all students responsible.

Authorities promise that those found culpable will face stringent sanctions under the law.

The viral incident has ignited widespread outrage online, highlighting growing concerns over student conduct, school discipline, and parental oversight.

Education experts note that while schools enforce regulations, active parental involvement remains crucial in curbing bullying and fostering safe learning environments.
