National News – Eight aspirants have indicated interest in the Rivers State governorship ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
The development was confirmed in Port Harcourt on Sunday, May 10, 2026, by the state ADC chairman-elect, Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa, who said the growing interest shows rising confidence in the party.
It also comes as former governor Rotimi Amaechi declared intention to contest the presidency on the ADC platform, a move the party described as bold and politically significant.
Dimkpa said the party is witnessing unprecedented political participation, with professionals, entrepreneurs, and ex-government officials joining across senatorial and legislative positions.
He added that ADC is becoming a convergence point for competence, credibility, and grassroots support in Rivers State politics.
The ADC leadership in Rivers State further emphasized that the party’s internal democratic structure will ensure transparent screening and fair competition among all aspirants vying for the governorship and other elective offices.
According to political analysts, the influx of high-profile figures into the ADC reflects shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections in Nigeria, especially in Rivers State, where party dominance has historically been highly competitive.
The party also reiterated its commitment to peaceful engagement, issue-based campaigns, and grassroots mobilization strategies designed to strengthen voter confidence.
Stakeholders believe the ongoing developments could reshape the state’s political landscape and position ADC as a key contender in future elections, particularly if unity among aspirants is maintained.
The screening process is expected to intensify in the coming months as 2027 approaches.
