National News – The governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has described the upcoming Ekiti State governorship election as a decisive test of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, Sani said the June 20 poll will reflect public confidence in the leadership of Bola Tinubu and the party’s direction.
The Kaduna governor, who chairs the APC campaign council for the election, arrived in Ekiti to kick off campaigns for incumbent governor Biodun Oyebanji, who is seeking re-election.
According to him, Oyebanji’s performance in governance has already positioned him for victory, citing achievements in infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, and social development.
Sani framed the contest not just as a state election but as a political signal.
With 13 parties participating, the outcome will offer early insights into voter sentiment and party strength ahead of the broader national race in 2027.
He argued that continuity in Ekiti would reinforce the APC’s narrative of stability and progress.
However, opposition voices and local observers see the election differently.
Some political analysts in Ekiti note that off-cycle governorship elections often reflect local dynamics more than national popularity.
Residents in Ado-Ekiti expressed mixed reactions—while some praised ongoing development projects, others raised concerns about economic pressures and whether governance achievements translate to improved living conditions.
The implications are significant. A strong showing for the APC could energise its base and shape campaign strategies nationwide.
Conversely, a tighter or unexpected result may embolden opposition parties and signal shifting political ground.
Ultimately, how voters in Ekiti respond—through turnout, voting patterns, and post-election reactions—will provide a clearer picture of Nigeria’s political mood as the countdown to 2027 intensifies.
