National News – Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday under heavy security as the court prepared to deliver a ruling on his bail application.

Armed security personnel were strategically deployed across the court premises to control access and maintain order.

Journalists and members of the public were kept at a distance, highlighting the heightened sensitivity surrounding the proceedings.

The court session, presided over by Justice Rilwan Aikawa, was expected to determine whether El-Rufai would be granted bail following fresh charges filed against him.

Earlier in the day, the former governor had appeared before the Kaduna State High Court, where proceedings were stalled.

Justice Darius Khobo adjourned the bail ruling to April 21 after unexpected legal developments.

The delay followed an amended nine-count charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, which introduced new allegations and removed one of the initial defendants, leaving El-Rufai as the sole accused.

Defence counsel, Ukpong Abang, revealed that the revised charges were only presented in court, preventing immediate legal response.

According to Abang, the defence team requires time to review the fresh allegations and determine the next legal steps.

He noted that the unexpected nature of the amended charges disrupted proceedings, making it impossible for the case to proceed as scheduled.

Security presence remained tight throughout the court session, reflecting concerns over public interest and potential unrest.

The situation underscores the seriousness of the case and its implications for Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.

The matter has now been adjourned to April 21, when the court is expected to rule on the bail application after both sides have adequately prepared.
