National News – Prof. Francis Faduyile, former President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has declared his intention to contest the Ondo South Senatorial District bye-election in Ondo State, South-West Nigeria.
The development comes after the seat became vacant following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, prompting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to schedule the poll for June 20, 2026.
Faduyile announced his ambition in Okitipupa Local Government Area, stating that he aims to complete the remaining tenure and deliver effective representation.
The medical expert and former Special Adviser on Health to the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu also pledged to prioritise healthcare reform, youth empowerment, and security in the district.
He further declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, aligning his campaign with the Renewed Hope Agenda across Ondo South’s six local governments.

The contest, which follows the vacancy created by Jimoh Ibrahim’s diplomatic appointment, is expected to draw significant interest across the six local government areas of the senatorial district.
Analysts note that the election will test party strength and voter alignment in Ondo State, particularly under the influence of national political dynamics ahead of 2027.
Faduyile’s campaign message focuses on improved healthcare delivery, job creation, and security, while also emphasising alignment with President Tinubu’s administration.
INEC has assured a transparent process, urging all aspirants and parties to comply with electoral guidelines and maintain peace during campaigns in Okitipupa and beyond.
