National News – Super Falcons Nigeria women’s national football team will travel to the United Kingdom later this month for a short training tour as part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The camp, scheduled for May 23 to 28, aims to boost fitness, assess new players, and improve team chemistry ahead of the continental championship.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will embark on a UK training camp from May 23 to 28, 2026, as part of their build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Nigeria Football Federation organised the short tour after the team struggled to secure friendly matches during the March international window, leaving a gap in competitive preparation.

The UK camp will include at least one friendly match and several training sessions designed to evaluate both established stars and emerging players.

Head coach Justine Madugu will use the opportunity to test new tactical options and widen his squad selection pool as Nigeria aim to defend their WAFCON title.

The team’s preparation has been affected by club commitments, meaning some regular players may be unavailable for the trip, though they are expected to return for the June 7 to 14 FIFA international window.

According to reports, Nigeria’s inability to secure warm-up opponents has been influenced by reluctance from potential rival teams, despite official approvals at federation level.

The Super Falcons remain Africa’s most successful women’s football side, with a record number of WAFCON titles, and the UK tour is expected to strengthen cohesion, improve match fitness, and refine strategies ahead of the continental competition.

Officials believe the UK tour will also help improve team readiness and provide better coordination before the decisive continental tournament.
