National News – The Federal Government has intensified security at key facilities following intelligence reports of a planned terrorist attack targeting major infrastructure in Abuja and nearby Niger State.

The alert, which surfaced on Thursday, indicates that extremist groups, including ISWAP and Boko Haram factions, are allegedly plotting coordinated strikes on the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Kuje Custodial Centre, and a military detention facility in Wawa.

Authorities say the move aims to prevent potential breaches and protect lives and assets.

According to security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigerian Correctional Service, proactive measures have been implemented to counter the threat.

Officials disclosed that surveillance has been heightened, access points are under stricter control, and intelligence-sharing among agencies has been strengthened.

Airport authorities confirmed that passengers and visitors are undergoing enhanced screening procedures to detect suspicious activity and prevent infiltration.

The warning follows an internal memo reportedly issued on April 13, 2026, which detailed how insurgents may have already infiltrated parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The memo highlighted similarities between the planned attack and previous strikes on aviation facilities in neighboring Niger Republic, raising concerns about a coordinated regional strategy.

Security experts warn that failure to act swiftly on intelligence has previously resulted in devastating incidents, including the 2022 Kuje prison attack.

In response, officials have reassured Nigerians that the situation is under control and urged citizens to remain calm while continuing their daily activities.

Security analysts, however, stress the importance of sustained vigilance and comprehensive deployment of resources beyond Abuja to prevent attackers from exploiting weaker regions.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government also announced the graduation of 744 rehabilitated former insurgents under Operation Safe Corridor, emphasizing a dual strategy of military action and de-radicalisation to address insecurity.
