National News – The Federal Government has announced plans to launch a new housing roadmap before the end of May 2026 to boost affordable home ownership and accelerate nationwide housing delivery through Public-Private Partnerships.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Darma, disclosed this during the second Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit held in Abuja on Tuesday.
The minister explained that the strategic housing framework was developed after consultations with agencies and departments under the ministry.
According to him, the roadmap will guide the implementation of housing projects, attract private investors, and support economic growth through modern housing infrastructure.
Darma revealed that major housing projects located in Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos State, Lambu in Kano State, and Karsana in Abuja would be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu once completed.
He said the government aims to expand affordable housing projects across Nigeria using strong PPP models, innovative housing finance systems, and inclusive participation from stakeholders.
The minister added that the ongoing projects have already created jobs for artisans, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and other construction professionals while stimulating business activities in host communities.
He further disclosed that the ministry, in partnership with the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, is currently delivering 1,550 housing units for military personnel to improve their welfare and living conditions.
Speaking on project verification, Darma said nationwide inspections would begin next week to confirm the availability and readiness of more than 15,000 housing units reportedly completed across the country.
He stated that if verified, the houses could accommodate over 60,000 Nigerians based on an average family size of four people.
The minister also urged financial institutions to create flexible mortgage and housing finance products tailored to Nigerians’ realities.
He called on state governments to provide land and enabling environments that would support rapid housing development and mass home ownership nationwide.
