Footballers Earn More Than Musicians – Skales

National News – Nigerian singer Skales has stirred debate by claiming that footballers earn more money than musicians, citing the structured nature of sports compared to the unpredictable music industry.

He made this statement during an interview on The Groovy Mono Show on Monday, May 4, 2026, where he explained why professional football offers greater financial stability.

According to Skales, footballers—regardless of global fame—receive consistent salaries and bonuses as long as they remain active in their careers.

He noted that this structured earning system makes football a more reliable profession financially.

In contrast, he described the music industry as highly competitive and uncertain, where artists can quickly rise to fame and just as easily fade away.

Explaining further, he said success in music depends heavily on sustained relevance, which is often influenced by trends, audience preferences, and external factors beyond an artist’s control.

This unpredictability, he argued, makes it difficult for many musicians to maintain a steady income over time.

To support his claim, Skales revealed that he once lost a jewellery endorsement deal worth over $300,000 because it was tied to a young footballer.

He used this example to highlight how footballers often secure lucrative endorsement deals, even without being internationally recognised stars.

While acknowledging that a few Nigerian musicians achieve massive financial success, he stressed that many others struggle to earn consistently.

He concluded that football provides a clearer and more dependable pathway to financial security for those who succeed professionally.

His remarks have since sparked conversations about income disparity, career stability, and the realities of both industries in Nigeria and beyond.
