FRSC, NSCDC Deepen Sokoto Partnership

National News – The Federal Road Safety Corps and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have moved to reinforce their operational alliance in Sokoto, pledging deeper collaboration to improve safety, security, and public service delivery across Nigeria’s North-West.

The commitment was made on Thursday in Sokoto when FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer for RS10, Assistant Corps Marshal Shoba B. Akande, paid a strategic visit to NSCDC Zonal Commander, Assistant Commandant General Bello A. Argungu, at the Zone 10 headquarters.

Akande described the engagement as more than ceremonial, stressing that modern security realities demand institutional synergy rather than isolated efforts.

He also conveyed the directive of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, who has set 2026 priorities around professionalism, discipline, and improved service delivery.

Argungu, in response, welcomed the initiative, noting that stronger collaboration would help protect lives and critical infrastructure more effectively.

Both agencies signaled readiness to expand joint operations, particularly in areas prone to accidents, emergencies, and security threats.

This partnership reflects a broader shift in Nigeria’s security architecture—moving from siloed agency actions to coordinated frameworks.

In regions like the North-West, where road safety issues intersect with broader security concerns, such alignment could reduce response time during emergencies and improve enforcement outcomes.

Residents and transport operators in Sokoto have often complained about overlapping duties and slow emergency responses.

A more unified approach could address these gaps, but success will depend on execution, not declarations.

Without measurable targets and accountability, such pledges risk becoming routine official rhetoric.

Ultimately, the renewed alliance signals intent—but its real test will be visible impact on highways and communities.
