National News – Former Ogun State governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has criticised Governor Dapo Abiodun over alleged poor development in Ijebu land and the loss of the Dangote refinery project to Lagos State.
Daniel made the remarks on Tuesday during a midterm assessment and empowerment programme held in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Daniel alleged that despite increased federal allocations to Ogun State following fuel subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu, residents of Ijebu communities have little to show for it.
According to him, the governor failed to support major federal projects facilitated in Ogun East, including a naval base in Abigi and a Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode.
The senator also accused Abiodun of remaining silent on the agitation for the creation of Ijebu State.
He further claimed that the multibillion-naira Dangote Refinery project, originally proposed for Ogun Waterside in Ijebu land, was lost to Lagos during negotiations involving the current administration.
Daniel questioned the impact of the governor’s leadership ahead of the 2027 Ogun East Senate race.
He said he would defeat Abiodun in a free and fair APC primary election if both politicians contest for the senatorial ticket.
Reacting to the allegations, Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, dismissed Daniel’s claims as false and politically motivated.
He stated that the governor had completed more than 29 infrastructure projects across Ijebu land and denied accusations surrounding the Dangote refinery relocation.
Akinmade also accused Daniel of anti-party activities and claimed that Ogun East APC stakeholders had already endorsed Governor Abiodun as the consensus candidate for the 2027 Senate election.
