National News – Nollywood actress and filmmaker Genevieve Nnaji is set to return to television screens in a new BBC Studios thriller titled Wahala.
The highly anticipated six-part drama series will stream on BBC iPlayer and air on BBC One, marking one of the actress’ biggest acting comebacks in recent years.
The announcement was made by BBC Studios on Tuesday.
The series is based on the debut novel Wahala written by Nikki May and adapted by BAFTA-nominated writer Theresa Ikoko.
The drama follows the lives of four Nigerian-British women living in London as they navigate friendship, relationships, careers and hidden secrets from their past.
The cast includes Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo and Susan Wokoma alongside Nnaji.
According to the producers, the arrival of a new friend named Isobel disrupts a long-standing bond among the women, leading to betrayal, emotional tension and shocking revelations.
Reacting to the project, Nnaji expressed excitement about joining the production and working with the cast and crew.
She described the story as intriguing and said she looked forward to being part of the new drama series.
The project also highlights Nnaji’s return to major screen acting after her critically acclaimed film Lionheart, released internationally in 2018 and later streamed on Netflix in 2019.
Over the years, the actress has maintained a low public profile, increasing fan anticipation around her latest role.
Produced by Firebird Pictures under BBC Studios, Wahala — a Nigerian Pidgin word meaning “trouble” — is expected to attract global attention for its mix of suspense, friendship and cultural storytelling.
