National News – Tension has gripped Osun State after gunmen reportedly killed Kolade Eluyera, identified as the son of the women leader of the Accord Party in Irewole Local Government Area.

The incident happened late Friday near Onireke Mosque in Ikire, raising fresh concerns about political violence ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.

The Imole Campaign Council, which is coordinating the re-election campaign of Governor Ademola Adeleke, called for an immediate investigation into the killing.

The council alleged that suspected political thugs were behind the attack and claimed security agencies had ignored earlier warnings about rising violence in the area.

Osun State Police Command confirmed that a lifeless body with gunshot wounds was recovered in Ikire.

Police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said investigations had begun while additional officers were deployed to restore calm and gather intelligence from witnesses and residents.

According to the campaign council spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, several complaints had earlier been made to security authorities over alleged intimidation, harassment and attacks targeting Accord Party members in Irewole Local Government.

He warned that the situation could threaten peace, democracy and political freedom in the state if urgent steps were not taken.

However, the allegation was rejected by the All Progressives Congress campaign council for governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji.

APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi described the accusations as false and politically motivated, insisting that the police should be allowed to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the killing.

The APC also denied any connection to violence in Osun State and maintained that its governorship candidate remained committed to peaceful political activities.

Meanwhile, residents and political stakeholders have continued to demand justice, improved security presence and swift action from law enforcement agencies to prevent further attacks in the state.
