National News – Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress screening committee to contest in the party’s governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
The screening took place in Abuja on Saturday as part of the APC’s internal process to select its candidate for the upcoming poll.
Hamzat confirmed the development in a statement shared on his X account after appearing before the committee.
He said he received a clean bill of approval from the panel, allowing him to proceed to the next phase of the race.
According to him, the governorship ambition is focused on service, continuity, and inclusive governance for Lagos residents.
The deputy governor explained that his political journey is aimed at strengthening the foundation already laid in Lagos State.
He noted that his vision includes improving opportunities for families, businesses, and communities across the state.
Hamzat added that he remains committed to delivering people-oriented governance and sustaining development projects.
The APC governorship screening is one of the key steps in the party’s preparation for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
Party leaders are expected to conclude consultations and primaries before unveiling the party’s flag bearer.
Political observers believe the race could shape the future direction of governance in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
Earlier this week, Hamzat officially submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms for the election.
He stated that his decision to contest was driven by a sense of responsibility and commitment to building a more inclusive Lagos.
He also assured supporters that his campaign would focus on unity, growth, and sustainable progress for all residents.
