Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a surge in violent clashes between the Chobo and Bachaman communities.

This marks the fourth curfew in less than six months as tensions continue to escalate, claiming lives and property.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary, Humeashi Wonosikou, Governor Fintiri condemned the violence, describing it as unacceptable.

“The government has directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly.

Any person or group found violating this order will face legal action,” the statement said.

Residents are urged to cooperate with authorities and provide information to aid security efforts.

The curfew is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

Governor Fintiri emphasized that his administration is committed to protecting lives, property, and ensuring the safety of all citizens in the state.

According to local sources, at least six people were killed over the weekend as hostilities escalated.

Reports indicate that retaliatory attacks by Bachaman youths against Chobo villages contributed to the rising death toll.

The protracted communal crisis has claimed over 30 lives in recent months, disproportionately affecting women.

Adamawa State Police Command, through spokesman SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incidents and promised to provide updated casualty figures.

The ongoing conflict poses serious challenges to peace in Lamurde and neighboring communities.

Governor Fintiri’s government appeals to residents to remain calm, adhere to the curfew, and support law enforcement agencies in restoring normalcy.

Authorities are stepping up patrols and other security measures to prevent further violence and ensure stability in the region.
