Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi made a much-anticipated return from injury on Saturday, but Hull City suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Millwall in the English Championship at the MKM Stadium.

Ajayi, who had been sidelined since January 17 due to a hamstring injury sustained during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations third-place match against Egypt, completed the full 90 minutes as he works to regain match fitness.

Hull had struggled in Ajayi’s absence, and Saturday’s defeat highlighted their ongoing defensive vulnerabilities. Millwall struck first through Jake Cooper, who converted a close-range finish from a set-piece.

Hull responded before halftime when Joe Gelhardt capitalized on a well-coordinated attack to level the score from inside the penalty area.

After the break, Millwall regained control as Mihailo Ivanovic scored from close range to put the visitors ahead.

Hull pushed for an equalizer through attacking substitutions, but Millwall’s organized defense held firm.

Late in the game, Josh Coburn sealed Millwall’s victory with a powerful strike from outside the area, leaving Hull still searching for consistency in their Championship campaign.

Ajayi’s return is a positive sign for Hull’s defensive line, though the team clearly needs time to rebuild confidence and cohesion.

Football analysts note that the Super Eagles centre-back’s presence brings experience and stability, which Hull will need in the crucial matches ahead to avoid slipping further down the league table.

Millwall’s performance demonstrated their attacking efficiency and defensive discipline, ensuring all three points were secured.

Hull City now faces a series of challenging fixtures where they must capitalize on home advantage to climb the Championship standings.
