Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly left Saudi Arabia for Madrid, Spain, following growing security concerns in the Middle East after recent military strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iran.

The 41-year-old captain and forward of Al-Nassr departed from Riyadh late at night aboard his luxury Bombardier Global Express 6500 private jet, valued at approximately $81 million (£61 million).

Flight-tracking data indicates that the aircraft took off around 8:00 p.m. and arrived in Madrid shortly before 1:00 a.m., travelling across Egyptian airspace and the Mediterranean Sea.

Reports indicate that Ronaldo’s departure came shortly after drone strikes targeted sensitive locations in Saudi Arabia.

One of the drones reportedly struck the United States Embassy in Riyadh, causing a small fire and minor structural damage.

Saudi defence authorities confirmed that the attack resulted in material damage but no casualties.

The football legend has been living in Riyadh with his partner, Georgina Rodríguez, and their five children since joining Al-Nassr.

However, rising tensions across the region have reportedly prompted safety concerns for several high-profile residents.

The situation escalated after US-Israeli military strikes carried out on February 28, 2026, targeted Iranian military leadership.

According to Iranian state media, the attacks killed several senior officials, including the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Following the announcement of Khamenei’s death, Iranian authorities declared 40 days of national mourning along with a week-long public holiday.

The development has further intensified geopolitical tensions across the Middle East, raising fears of wider instability.

Although Ronaldo’s representatives have not publicly commented on the move, the timing of his departure suggests precautionary measures amid the rapidly evolving security situation.

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in 2023 and remains one of the most prominent figures in Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing football league.

His temporary relocation to Madrid highlights how rising regional tensions are affecting not only political and military actors but also international sports figures living in the region.
