The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has pledged to run an issue-based campaign as political activities intensify ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in the state.

Oluyede made the commitment shortly after a Federal High Court ruling directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise him as the legitimate PDP candidate for the poll.

The court judgment, delivered in Abuja on Friday, resolved the earlier controversy surrounding Oluyede’s candidacy after the electoral body initially declined to recognise him.

The ruling effectively cleared the way for the PDP flag bearer to begin full-scale campaigns across the state.

Speaking through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Gani Salau, Oluyede described the verdict as a victory not only for him but also for the people of Ekiti State and the rule of law.

According to him, his campaign would focus on policies, governance plans and practical solutions aimed at improving the lives of residents.

Oluyede urged Ekiti voters, regardless of their political affiliations, to support the PDP in the forthcoming election and vote out the incumbent administration led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress.

“Our campaign will be strictly issue-based,” Oluyede said. “We will focus on the ideas, policies and programmes that will transform Ekiti State and improve the well-being of our people.

The goal is to present a clear alternative that will deliver better governance.”

He also expressed gratitude to supporters and residents of the state for what he described as overwhelming encouragement and solidarity during the legal battle over his candidacy.

Oluyede called on them to convert their support into votes on election day.

Meanwhile, the PDP South-West leadership described the court ruling as a major boost for the party ahead of the governorship race.

The party’s zonal publicity secretary, Sanya Atofarati, said the decision had strengthened the party’s momentum and renewed the determination of members to mobilise voters at the grassroots.

Atofarati urged PDP supporters across wards and local government areas in Ekiti State to intensify mobilisation efforts, expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the June 20 governorship election.

He added that the judgment reaffirmed the independence of the judiciary and demonstrated that democratic institutions remain vital in resolving political disputes in Nigeria.
