National News – The Governor of Abba Kabir Yusuf has removed the state’s Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, from office with immediate effect as part of ongoing efforts to restructure the civil service in Kano State.

The decision was announced in an official statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the removal is aimed at strengthening efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery within government institutions across the state.

The administration said the move forms part of broader reforms designed to reposition the civil service and ensure better performance in the delivery of public services.

Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service for his contributions and dedication during his time in office.

He wished Musa success in his future endeavors and commended his service to the state.

Following the development, the governor directed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, who currently serves as the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services in the Cabinet Office, to assume office in an acting capacity.

She will oversee the affairs of the office pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service.

The directive also instructed the outgoing official to hand over all responsibilities to the acting Head of Service no later than Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Political observers say the move comes amid recent political developments in the state, including Governor Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The shift has triggered adjustments across administrative and political structures in Kano, as the government aligns its leadership and institutional framework with the new political direction.

Analysts note that such changes are common during political transitions, particularly when administrations seek to strengthen governance and streamline operations within the civil service.

The Kano State government reiterated its commitment to reforms aimed at enhancing productivity, accountability, and professionalism within the public sector.
