The Federal Ministry of Works has announced temporary traffic diversions on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to allow for critical repairs on the Kara Bridge outbound lane.
Scheduled to start on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the maintenance work is expected to last two weeks, concluding on March 24.
The repairs focus on replacing deteriorated expansion joints that have posed safety risks and contributed to traffic incidents in recent months.
In a statement issued by the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, motorists were advised to plan alternative routes to ease congestion.
Drivers travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan are encouraged to use the Shimawa or Mosinmi routes.
Those coming from Lagos Island can take the Epe corridor via Ijebu Ode to reach Sagamu, Ibadan, or Mowe.
Authorities caution that shorter routes may not necessarily save time, emphasizing careful planning and compliance with traffic management directives.
The Ministry also noted that the partial closure addresses earlier public complaints over prolonged traffic delays on the Lagos-bound section of the Kara Bridge.
This move follows a prior announcement for six-week maintenance on multiple bridges, including Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge, and Arepo–Punch Bridge.
Michael Komolafe, Ogun State Federal Controller of Works, apologized for the inconvenience and assured motorists of improved traffic management during the repair period.
Officials stress that these repairs are crucial to ensure the long-term durability, stability, and safety of the nation’s road infrastructure.
Motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously around the work zones and stay informed of any updates from the Federal Ministry of Works.
With Lagos-Ibadan Expressway being a vital trade and commuter route, proactive maintenance like this is essential to reduce accidents and prevent further traffic congestion.
Drivers are urged to plan their trips early and follow all safety guidelines.
