Nigerian gospel singer, Taiwo Adegbodu, of the popular Adegbodu Twins

The Nigerian gospel music industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Taiwo Adegbodu, one half of the famous Adegbodu Twins.

The singer’s death was confirmed on Sunday morning through the duo’s official fan page on Facebook, which is managed by their team.

In an emotional message shared online, the post expressed deep grief over the sudden loss.

According to the statement, the singer’s passing has left family members, fans, and colleagues in shock. The cause of his death had not been officially disclosed as of the time of reporting.

Tributes have begun pouring in from fellow gospel artistes and admirers across Nigeria. Among those who reacted was gospel musician Esther Igbekele, who shared a tribute on social media to honour the late singer.

In her message, she described the loss as difficult to bear and prayed for his peaceful rest.

Taiwo Adegbodu rose to prominence alongside his twin brother Kehinde Adegbodu after the release of their debut album Faratimi (Lean on Me) in 1999. The project helped establish the duo as influential voices in Yoruba gospel music.

Over the years, the Adegbodu Twins became widely known for their spiritually uplifting songs and energetic performances.

Some of their most popular tracks include Shower Your Blessing, God Concert, Emi Mimo, Igbagbo Dun, Ma Beru, and Adura Mi Gba.

Their music resonated strongly with Christian audiences and gospel music lovers across Nigeria.

Beyond music, the twins also contributed to cultural and entertainment development in Osun State.

In recognition of their influence and contribution to the creative industry, Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun State, appointed them as Special Advisers on Entertainment and Tourism.

Taiwo Adegbodu’s passing comes shortly after the death of another Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnaanu, who reportedly died in a Lagos hospital earlier in 2026.

Fans, fellow musicians, and members of the Christian community continue to express their condolences, remembering Taiwo Adegbodu for his musical legacy, faith-driven ministry, and decades of inspiring gospel music.
