The scholarship scheme, valued at ₦400,000 per student, aims to expand access to higher education and empower young Nigerians who may otherwise struggle to afford university tuition.
The initiative was unveiled during a ceremony marking Tinubu-Ojo’s second anniversary as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Havilla University.
According to her, the programme is designed to help talented but financially disadvantaged students pursue their academic dreams and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Tinubu-Ojo described education as a powerful equaliser capable of bridging the gap between the rich and the poor in society.
She emphasised that providing opportunities for young Nigerians to access quality education is essential for building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
“As the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Havilla University, this scholarship initiative reflects my commitment to youth empowerment and educational advancement,” she said during the unveiling event.
The scholarship programme will support 1,000 students with ₦400,000 each, helping them cover tuition and other academic costs as they begin their studies at the Cross River-based institution.
Speaking at the event, the university’s Chancellor, Jones Tangban, praised Tinubu-Ojo for the generous gesture.
He noted that although the scholarships are personally funded, the initiative aligns with the broader development vision of the current federal administration.
Tangban added that the programme complements the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s government, which prioritises youth development, education, and economic empowerment.
The event also featured the inauguration of modern facilities within the university, including the Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Complex, as well as the foundation laying ceremony for the Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Centre for Vocational Studies.
The new centre is expected to strengthen skills development and vocational training for students.
University officials believe the scholarship initiative will boost enrolment, improve educational opportunities, and further position Havilla University as an emerging institution committed to academic excellence in Nigeria.
