National News – The Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, Hammed Aroyewun, has reaffirmed strong support for House of Representatives member Babajimi Benson amid reports of opposition to his bid for a fourth term representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency.

The statement, issued on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in Lagos, addresses political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He highlighted infrastructure achievements including over 100 facilitated roads across the constituency, ongoing 13km Offin–Oreta Road linking more than 50 communities, improved security through a smart police station in Elepe, and healthcare expansion such as the 80-bed Mother and Child Hospital in Imota and proposed Federal Medical Centre in Igbogbo/Baiyeku.

He further noted social welfare initiatives like the iCare FoodBank supporting vulnerable residents monthly, while praising Benson’s legislative performance as Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, including sponsorship of over 50 bills and contributions to key defence reforms.

Aroyewun urged residents to support continuity, stressing that development is sustained through experience and long-term representation, while encouraging aspirants to contest through democratic elections rather than political speculation.

The endorsement comes as political alignments intensify in Ikorodu Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections, with stakeholders increasingly engaging in consultations over zoning, performance evaluation, and continuity of ongoing constituency projects, which remain central to the debate on representation and development priorities in Lagos State.

Analysts say the development underscores growing political consolidation around incumbency in parts of Lagos politics, where infrastructure delivery, constituency outreach, and party alignment often shape electoral outcomes more than emerging opposition narratives.

Observers also note that Benson’s track record in legislative sponsorship and constituency projects continues to influence grassroots support across wards in Ikorodu, strengthening calls for continuity in representation.
