National News – The race for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State gathered momentum over the weekend as Dr Adewale Kolapo Kareem, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, officially obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms in Abuja.
Kareem’s move signals his formal entry into the contest, joining other prominent aspirants positioning to secure the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.
Kareem, who picked up the forms at the party’s national headquarters, said his decision reflects his commitment to democratic principles and loyalty to the APC.
According to him, the process adopted by the party demonstrates transparency and reinforces its reputation as a progressive political platform.
His declaration comes at a time when political activities are intensifying across Oyo State, with aspirants consulting stakeholders and mobilising support across the 33 local government areas.
The governorship hopeful explained that his ambition is driven by a vision to transform the state into a structured and industrialised economy.
He emphasised that his plan focuses on unlocking citizens’ potential through human capital development, improved governance systems, and sustainable economic policies.
Kareem also made it clear that his mission includes challenging the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and reclaiming leadership at the Agodi Government House.
Highlighting how he intends to achieve this, Kareem said he would intensify grassroots consultations, engage party elders, and build consensus within the APC to secure the ticket.
He expressed confidence that party stakeholders would align with his candidacy, citing what he described as a shared vision for a better Oyo State.
He further stressed the importance of unity within the APC, noting that collective effort would be key to unseating the incumbent administration.
As political alignments continue ahead of the 2027 election, Kareem’s entry adds to the growing competition expected to shape the party’s primary and the eventual governorship race.
