National News – Controversy surrounded the All Progressives Congress senatorial primaries in Kogi State on Monday as protests and allegations of irregularities emerged across some districts.

The dispute involved incumbent senator Jibrin Isah, popularly known as Echocho, who rejected the outcome of the primary election in Kogi East Senatorial District.

The exercise was held ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party leaders and aspirants contesting for APC senatorial tickets.

Echocho alleged that election materials and officials failed to arrive in several wards, including his polling unit, making it impossible for a valid election to take place.

In a viral video circulated after the exercise, the senator accused party officials of preparing results before voting commenced.

He described the declared outcome as illegal and vowed to challenge the process.

The senator also warned that he could contest against Ahmed Ododo in the 2027 governorship election if justice was not done.

Echocho claimed his empowerment programmes and constituency projects were aimed at strengthening the APC and supporting President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ododo ahead of future elections.

In Kogi West Senatorial District, another aspirant, Abubakar Ola, alleged that thugs disrupted voting in areas where he enjoyed strong support.

He also accused political opponents of attempting to intimidate his supporters before voting began.

Despite the complaints, party officials described turnout across the three senatorial districts as impressive.

Former governor Yahaya Bello, contesting in Kogi Central, praised delegates and APC officials for conducting what he called a peaceful and transparent exercise.

Governor Ododo also commended the process after casting his vote in Okene Local Government Area under heavy security presence.
